Several names had to be eliminated along the way to reach the 666 finishes that would continue on Day 4. The list of bustos include David Vamplew, John Racener, Robert Mizrachi, Kevin Pollak, David Benyamine, Johnny Chan, Tony Dunst, Scott Seiver, Jeff Shulman, Jason DeWitt, Liv Boeree, Phil Hellmuth, Freddy Deeb and Phil Ivey.
Ivey managed to get close to the upper region of the field twice and he planned to double his stack of 425,000 to get a place among the top chips counts, when he unexpectedly busted out on Level 14 (500/1,500/3,000). From UTG, he opened to 7,500 and got called by Olaoluwa Okelola, Max Steinberg as well as Anthony Gregg. The flop came A T 3, Gregg checked, Ivey bet 16,000, Okelola raised to 41,000, Steinberg called and Gregg folded. Ivey tanked a bit before 3-betting all-in, Okelola folded but Steinberg insta-called with T T . Ivey tabled 3 3 and the 5 and Q on the last streets could not save him.
Eventually, the only one left with a stack of over 1,000,000 in chips was Maxx Coleman, which means he leads the field to Day 4, where the money bubble will burst at the top 648 finishes. Kroon remains in play but with a considerably diminished stack of 343,000. He lost a major amount in what was to that point the biggest pot in the Main Event to German Somar Al-Darwich, who tabled a straight. Also in play are two former WSOP Main Event champions, Doyle Brunson and Greg Merson.
