Shortstack Sebastein Roy was the first to be eliminated at Level 28 (10,000/30,000/60,000). 2nd finisher of one of the $1,500 NLHE events, Josh ‘pairDboard21’ Evans came next, followed by Douglas MacKinnon and WSOPE 2008 Main Event runner-up Stanislav Alekhin, still at Level 28. Harald Olsen finished in 5th place and then Ren Ho Zhang was railed. Michaelo and Lykov got to play heads-up with the elimination of Warren Wooldridge.
The 20 minutes long session did not bring any changes; Lykov even increased his lead. Finally, the players shoved preflop:
Michaelo: K 5
Lykov: A K
Board: A Q Q 9 7
Max Lykov
Lykov won his first WSOP bracelet with two pairs. The results are as follows:
The 8-handed final table was not formed on Day 4 of WSOP Event #55 $50,000 Poker Players Championship; 9 players returned on Day 5. The following grinders started with 8-game (going NLHE-exclusive after the final table was on):
It was Jason Lester finishing in 9th place and so the official finale began. This year’s PLO champion Ben Lamb was eliminated first, followed by Scott Seiver, George Lind, Matt Glantz and Owais Ahmed. With Minh Ly also railed, Hellmuth and Rast remained to play heads-up.
They started the session with nearly equal stacks and the HU brought about 2 hours of intense action. First, it was Hellmuth who amassed a huge lead; by Level 27 (30,000/60,000/120,000) he had 16,300,000 in chips against Rast’s 2,900,000. The latter, however, doubled up twice and showed off an impressive comeback; he was in the lead by the time of the last hand. Hellmuth raised to 400,000, Rast called and the flop came J 9 T . Rast bet 500,000, Hellmuth shoved and Rast called, saying: “I'm sorry Phil, I have the nuts. I call.”
Hellmuth: 8 2
Rast: K Q
Turn: 5
River: 8
Brian Rast
Rast won the Championship with a straight, a 12th golden bracelet eluding Hellmuth once again. The results can be seen below.
