US operators had to deal with an overnight crackdown on online gambling payments by credit card giant Mastercard.
Rumor has it that Mastercard has toughened its stance to comply with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), banning the facilty of online gambling by payment companies.
Original enforcement of the UIGEA was due 1 December 2009, although the US treasury delayed compliance, allowing companies until 1 June 2010. This act should not have a prolonged dramatic effect on online gambling, as for in time players will find alternatives, such as EwalletXpress or Poker Echecks to pay for their gameplay.
With the word on the street that Visa, Mastercard’s main rival will soon be following suit, these alternative companies will be laughing all the way to the bank.
