PokerScout's systems had a hard time registering the unusually huge traffic. The graph below shows what happened exactly; the red line shows PokerStars traffic on Tuesday, the blue line the traffic in the room one week earlier.
The 150,000 peak is the highest ever recorded traffic in the largest poker room. Naturally, as the milestone hand was dealt, player counts quicly returned to usual numbers.
It is clear that PokerStars' traffic went through the roof on Thursday; but where did all the players come? It seems, that the majority of them came from PokerStars, from games where there were no promotions running such as Zoom games, SNGs, MTTs. The were players coming from other sites as well; Full Tilt Poker's traffic dropped considerably, as it's easier for them to transfer funds to PokerStars to take part in such promotion.
Not only the number of players sparked during the promotional period, much more hands were dealt at PokerStars, the rise was 20%. This is a bit lower than some early expectations, because many players came over from Zoom, the Zoom hand cound was missing. Most players played more tables then they used to, which accounted for the 20 percent rise.
PokerStars quickly announced a new record attempt after the 100 Billion promotion was over; now the SNG games are about to draw some serious traffic thanks to the Golden Sit & Go promotion (running from 17 - 23 June).
World Record broken
PokerStars also set a new world record on Sunday: their $1 World Record attempt tournament's entrant number reached 225,000. The additional $75,000 created a 33% overlay, and the $25,000 first prize attracted players. The hyper-turbo format with 3-minute blind levels spawned a winner in 4 hours.
The last Guinness World Record was held by PokerStars since 2011, when 200,000 players played a very similar tournament.
The players dropping out of the tournament progressed to the cash tables, with a traffic rise of 14% in the time of the tournament.
