2012 Retrospective – Part 2

In the second part of our annual retrospective, we take a look at the highlights of March and April, 2012. We had a long due rematch, Fast Poker hitting the online rooms and PokerStars shocking the poker community with some news.

March

In the first half of the month, a long due rematch between Viktor Blom and Isaac Haxton took place as part of the SuperStar Showdown series, coming to its conclusion after a couple of days of pause. Eventually, Haxton emerged victorious with a profit of $5,093.

The highly anticipated real money Zoom Poker launched on PokerStars. The fast pace ring game format first hit the micro limit tables.

Soon after PokerStars, Unibet, Betsson and iGame also launched their respective speed game format, developed by Relax Gaming and named Fast Poker.

April

PokerStars dominated the flow of news in April: first, they launched an attack on data mining site Poker Table Ratings, claiming they infringe the intellectual property rights of the room and breach their terms and conditions. Later, PTR gave in and deleted all information concerning PokerStars players.

Incredible news surfaced on the Full Tilt Poker aquisition: while the long negotiations with the Bernard Tapie Group eventually failed, news began to spread that PokerStars might purchase the room. Later, these news would prove to be true and lead to the long anticipates re-launch of Full Tilt Poker.

Only superlatives could describe the player pool of the most expensive European Poker Tournament ever, the EPT Grand Final. Phil Ivey, Daniel 'jungleman12' Cates, Viktor 'Isildur1' Blom, Isaac Haxton, Sam Trickett, Jason Mercier, Gus Hansen, Sorel Mizzi, Daniel Negreanu, Jonathan Duhamel, Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier, Tom Marchese, Eugene Katchalov and Scott Seiver all paid the €100,000 buy-in, to name a few.

In late April, 2p2 community members had to worry about a hacker attack on the popular forum, during which e-mail addressess and passwords were compromised. Luckily, no serious damage was eventually made.
