The US Attorney’s Office Southern District of New York has announced an agreement between the US Department of Justice (DoJ) and the Garden City Group (GCG). The task of the Group will be to administer the compensation of US players, whose bankrolls have been frozen on the Full Tilt Poker (FTP) accounts.
Although details of the procedure of the compensation have not been published yet, GCG has already set up a website to assist in the administration: fulltiltpokerclaims.com. According to the site, US players of FTP will soon be able to submit their claims.
In the official press release of the DoJ, the following reads regarding the Group: “GCG is a class action settlement and bankruptcy administration company that has provided comprehensive legal administration services for nearly three decades. GCG has worked on numerous complex administrations, including the Gulf Coast Claims Facility; the Deepwater Horizon Economic and Property Damage Settlement; the Visa Check/MasterMoney Antitrust Litigation; the WorldCom Securities Litigation; and the IPO Securities Litigation.”
“The Garden City Group brings a track record of handling the administration of some of the country’s largest and most complicated settlements. With their selection, we take a significant step forward in the process of compensating victims of the Full Tilt Poker scheme,” Manhattan US Attorney Preet Bharara said.
PokerStars owner Rational Group purchased the forfeited assets of Full Tilt Poker last year from the DoJ for a total of $547 million. This covers the compensation of about 1.3 million US players by the Department in a total worth of about $150 million.
