We will not be talking about Isildur1’s identity in this article, but it is a fact that BankTheMan seems to have a lot of inside knowledge on the Swedish poker world, (this current interview does not claim to feature Isildur, but Viktor Blom), so let’s stick to the facts. Here is the story of Viktor Blom:
The early years
Viktor Blom started playing poker in high school (that is, age 13-15 in Sweden) with his brother, mostly in coins and small amounts of money. Soon, Viktor and his friends spent most of their free time and even school breaks palying poker, but this was not enough for him. Viktor and his brother decided to put together $100 to play at an online poker site, and did quite well straight away. After a short period of low buy-in games, they were already playing $530 turbo SNG’s (still at the age of 15).
Viktor’s other big passion is betting, and this has also evolved in his mid-teens. He and his friends were betting on soccer, tennis tournaments and even made up betting games based entirely on luck. Huge debts were a common thing for Viktor and his friends (he recalls one friend owing them $5,000).
Viktor Blom
Busto
In 2008, Viktor confessed to have been running lower than ever. One day, he had $300K, and the next morning, all was history. Still going to school, Viktor found it hard to keep up his spirits and stop gambling. Although constantly feeling sick of poker, he started emptying a friend’s account and lost another $3,000 in one night. Feeling almost suicidal, Viktor had to call home and ask for money from his parents to pay rent and go to school. His parents were desperately trying to make Viktor move home, but working or going to school was not an option for him. All he wanted to do was to play poker.
So somehow, in the end of December 2009, Blom got his hands on another $1.5K to take his last shot at poker. This was his only chance to succeed and get the opportunity to lead a normal life. One last shot.
This is where the first part of the interview ends (the full story can be found on highstakesdb under this link).
According to the Swedish forum members, the next part will appear end of December/beginning of January, following a Swedish poker award ceremony.
We can’t wait!
