GGPoker Does It Again: Another WSOP Main Event Record Broken
GGPoker has done it again, breaking their world record this year after the stunning results of the World Series Of Poker (WSOP) 2023 Main Event entries. This provider has been hailed as the poker king, offering the most significant tournaments and breaking multiple records. Join us as we look at how the 2023 Main Event (ME) for the WSOP is going and the record it broke.
The Previous GGPoker WSOP Record
The amazing fact about this record-breaking event is that GGPoker broke their own one! In 2020, when the poker industry experienced a boom due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, GGPoker set the record for most WSOP Online ME entries.
The online 2020 ME gathered 5,802 entries, growing the prize pool to $27,559,500. GGPoker also set the official Guinness World Record for the largest prize pool in a single tournament. The poker room has held that achievement until now, and in this latest WSOP Online tournament, they surpassed their record.
WSOP 2023 Main Event
The 2023 ME has gathered an astounding number of entries, with 6,023 participants, growing the $25 million prize pool by 14% to $28,609,250. This is 221 more entries than three years ago, which many thought would be the online poker industry’s peak. It also means GGPoker gathered an impressive rake amount of $1.93 million, likely the single-highest payday in poker history.
How It Started
Day 1 flights started on the 20th of August, and despite complications, Day 1D on Sunday September 10, drew 605 participants. The prize pool’s majority, approximately 70%, is accounted for within the first 12 flights.
How It Went
While it started strong, it slowed down around the middle. Of the 21 flights, later changed to 20, the middle six flights only garnered around 171 entries, leaving GGPoker still short by almost 800 participants to surpass their 2020 achievement.
How It Ended
However, the poker room buckled up and continued, with the last two flights garnering an incredible 500 entries each, pushing them over the numbers of 2020.
Largest Poker Tournaments Ever
GGPoker has an impressive resume if we look at the top 25 largest poker tournaments globally. The three most prominent online poker tournaments belong to GGPoker, all three WSOP Main Events for 2020, 2022, and 2023.
Further, when considering the top seven most significant online poker events, only three don’t belong to GGPoker, two being partypoker tournaments and one being PokerStars. However, looking at the participants, GGPoker boasts double the number of participants than any other provider.
The one that came closest to their record is partypoker with 2109 entries, which is still half GGPoker’s 2022 number of 4,367 entries, not to speak of this year’s 6,203 entries.
GGPoker’s Rise to Glory
With the 2023 Main Event winner set to win $2.7 million and the runner-up just over $2 million, all eyes are on the WSOP event. GGPoker continues to astound as it breaks its records left and right, placing such a large gap between it and the runner-up that it seems impossible to bypass them. This poker room is leading the charge into a new poker era, and they’re not slowing down anytime soon.
