GGPoker made headlines by disqualifying the winner of a recent WSOP online event. Francesco Garofalo, known as “forzaitalia,” lost his WSOP bracelet. He also lost $1.1 million as GGPoker took back the prize and redistributed it to other players. This was one of the largest refunds in online poker history.

GGPoker Takes Back the Prize

GGPoker’s decision to disqualify Garofalo shocked many. He won the GGMillion$ Super High Rollers Championship, securing a $1.1 million prize. But his victory did not last. GGPoker took the rare step of seizing the winnings and giving them to other players.

High-stakes player Patrick Leonard shared the news on X. He said he received over $150,000 from GGPoker. It was part of the prize redistribution. Leonard’s payout increased as his finishing position moved up.

Violation Details and Allegations

Alleged Rule Violations

GGPoker did not reveal the exact reason for the disqualification. However, we believe the offences were serious. The suspected violations include multi-accounting and using unfair software. Such actions harm fair play in poker. GGPoker will not allow any behaviour that compromises integrity.

GGPoker’s Stand

GGPoker sent emails to players affected by the changes. They confirmed the disqualification but did not share many details. They did say Garofalo’s behaviour broke their rules.

Consequently, they banned him from GGPoker for life. Secrecy in these cases is standard, but GGPoker’s quick action showed their dedication to fairness.

Redistributing the Prize

Garofalo’s disqualification caused a major prize redistribution. The $5.6 million prize pool from 230 entries had to be adjusted. The redistributed winnings affected many well-known players. Chris Brewer, Bryn Kenney, and Patrick Leonard all gained from the changes.

Brewer, who came in second, got more money. However, he did not receive the WSOP bracelet. Five players received much larger prizes due to this change. This marks one of the biggest prize redistributions ever in online poker.

Community Reaction

The disqualification sparked strong reactions in the poker community. Patrick Leonard thanked GGPoker for the refunds and praised their action. He posted his appreciation online. Still, some questioned why Brewer did not get the bracelet.

Many players felt he deserved it. As the adjusted winner, the bracelet would be a proper reward. Others agreed with GGPoker’s choice to keep the bracelet unclaimed. The rule violations showed that no winner should be crowned.

A Lesson in Fair Play

This story shows us that integrity in poker is vital. No matter how high the stakes, fair play must come first. GGPoker took quick and tough action to protect the game. They refused to let cheating go unpunished. It was a bold move that protected all honest players.

Online poker will only thrive if all players follow the rules. GGPoker’s actions set a strong example. Fairness is key to making the game enjoyable for everyone. The message is clear: cheating will not be tolerated, no matter the prize.

The poker world will continue to face these challenges. But strong actions like GGPoker’s will protect the sport. Players want a fair game and want to compete knowing the game is clean.

When platforms take steps to ensure this, everyone benefits. GGPoker’s decision may not please everyone, but it is a step in the right direction.
