One of Entain’s well-known poker rooms, partypoker, has been bringing the thrill of the race to poker tables for almost a decade now. The latest edition of its iconic Grand Prix Series is underway, with a decent $1.5 million guarantee. We take a spin around the track to see what this series offers to players.
History of the Grand Prix Series
In 2015, partypoker hosted the first edition of this series as a live event in partnership with Dusk Till Dawn. It evolved from there, becoming a live tournament with several UK/Canadian stops. Its next step was welcoming the online version, which soon became one of partypoker’s regular tournaments.
Soon, the series became known to be available bi-annually, with editions in the winter and summer months. However, while the series used to be known for its high guarantees and average prize pools, a lot has changed since.
Partypoker has withdrawn from several grey/unregulated markets and said goodbye to well-known ambassadors like Tom Waters and Rob Yong. As such, its cash game traffic and overall prize pools dropped significantly.
The Summer 2024 Edition
The tournament might not compete with those in its heyday, when the Main Event offered up to $500,000 in guarantee. However, it’s still one to pay attention to. This series started on July 11th and will continue until the 29th. Its $1.5 million prize pool matches the winter edition held earlier in 2024, and it features eight significant multi-day events.
Format
This series has over 354 events. Progressive Knockouts (PKO), Pot-limit Omaha, Deepstacks, Shortstacks, Mix-Max, Turbo, and Fast Tournaments are available. There are also different versions of these tournaments. Examples are the two PKO versions of Ultra (adds 75% of the buy-in to the bounty pool) and Total (adds 100% of the buy-in).
Buy-ins
The series is ideal for casual players and high rollers alike. While it doesn’t have the extreme buy-ins and rewards associated with brands like GGPoker, its buy-in goes up to $109.
Meanwhile, it boasts the lowest possible buy-in in the industry of 55 cents, making it extremely accessible to players of all bankrolls. There are three tiers available for buy-ins, ranging from the Micro (55 cents to $2.20) to Mid ($3.30 to $11) and High ($11 to $109).
Events
There are many events players can look forward to, the biggest and best of which are the three Main Events:
- $150k Main Event ($55 buy-in)
- $40k Mini Edition ($11 buy-in)
- $5k Micro Edition ($2.20 buy-in)
Five other events use the phased format, ideal for players who like having multiple chances to reach the Day 2 event. Some of the other events that stand out are the:
- $50k/$10k/$1.5k Opener
- $50k to $75k Sunday Party
- $40k Super
- $20k to $30k Sunday Carnival
The Race is On
The five phased events have 286 Day 1 flights, which provides ample opportunity for players to reach Day 2. While partypoker might not be one of the top five poker rooms, it still puts forth its best effort. The Grand Prix Summer Series suits players of all bankrolls, so join the race today.
