Poker and Beer - World Record Attempt for Charity

2012. November 12. |
Dean Bogan is trying to play 900 sit'n'gos (180 players) in 24 hours, while drinking at least 30 beers. The main goal of the attempt is to raise as much money as possible for an Australian organization fighting against youth suicide and mental problems.
Dean "bogan4life" Bogan started his 24-hour MTSNG marathon on the 12th November, with which he would like to break the record of the number of 180-player SNGs, pledging to play 900 of them. To achieve this, Bogan will play on 35 to 50 tables. The task in itself is close to impossible, but Bogan tops this by drinking at least 30 beers during the grind.

Bogan's goal is to collect as much money as possible for the Orygen Youth Health Organization. All of his winnings will go to the organization, and if he ends up losing, he will transfer them the amount that he is down by. Besides this, he will accept all kinds of prop bets from the ones also sending money for the cause.

Besides being a successful player, Bogan is a respected member of the 2+2 community, and became known for his good humor apart from his poker and sponsoration-related knowledge which he often shares. Most people know him as a cheerful guy, but he used to suffer from depression, and tried to commit suicide at the age of 21.

As he says, his friends have always been by his side during the hard times, and he would never have escaped the vicious circle of bipolar depression without the help of the Orygen Youth Health Organization. Today he is a family man living a balanced life, and feels that the time has come for him to be helping others. This is why he started the challenge, about which he posted on 2+2:

"Around this time last year Rowniwn and I did drink for a cause which was a prop bet to see who could grind and drink the most to raise money for Youth Suicide Prevention Charity's. In the time between then and now Marc has become to good to give up his time for charity (or he may be on holiday or some**** idk)

As most are aware I suffer from Depression and Bi-Polar and it was something I hid from and didn't seek help until I was found overdosed in my own bathroom at the age of 21. I was able to get the help I required and get my life back on track which 20 years ago wouldn't have been the case. I was lucky but a lot of kids don't run as great as I did. It might take another generation to take away the stigma attached to it but hopefully with more time there will be a great acceptance of the issue.

We have all been touched by a friend or a family member losing there life to Suicide and in most case you think dam I wish I knew, I wish he/she knew I was there or that there was someone to turn to. Hopefully by me making a fool of myself on webcam it raises a bit more awareness to the issue.

When:Starting at Midnight on the 12th of November for 24 hours

What: I have done some research (sharkscope high volume regs) and from what I could tell no one has ever played over 800 games in a day. My personal best is around the 650 mark for 180s and ill be attempting to play 900 games in the day and will reg for every $8, $15 and $35 that runs along with 3rs and 2s to max out some tables where I need to.

Now I know playing 35-50 tables for 24 hours isn't easy so Ill also being doing it while drinking 30 beers in the day for those of you that remember last time by hour 16 things tend to get a little interesting on the skype call and we should be having some sort of live stream going either by justin.tv or QuadJacks.

Donation Pledge: I personally will be donating all my winnings on the day to Orygen Youth Health's research into Youth Mental Illness and to support there efforts to help lower the number of youth suicide and depression. I will also be donating 50% of any profit split a horse ships me on the day. In the event of me having a losing day then I will be donating the amount I am down for the day.

I will also be offering up silly prop bets on the day, for example if someone donates X I will have a drink every time I fold in a unopened hand at the FT im on etc

How Can I help/Join:
Well Its never fun to do things alone so (esp during the off peak) it would be good to see some guys join me in the 180s and donate a part of there winnings on the day to the cause.

Im also looking for people to make pledges of a % of there winnings for the day or to donate an amount from $0.01 to god knows what for every game I reg. You can either make your pledge to donate to Orygen's research or pledge to donate to a Youth Mental Illness Awareness charity in your area.

Who do I send to?: If you choose to donate via Pokerstars then donations can be sent to Rowniwn on Stars and he will handle the donation to Orygen. Marc said he is happy to escrow and then ship the payment on to Orygen. Please don't send anything ATM but please do post your pledges and trust me the more we raise the crazier the drinking will get.

I would love to see people joining in and looking up a good Youth Mental Health charity in the area and support there. We are pretty lucky to be able to do what we do so having a day where we give a little bit back to help the next generation while downing some beers seems good to me" - says Dean Bogan, and also adds that "you will be seeing plenty of this":

HoeselJoshua and maronipoker have also joined Bogan, and many players are waiting to offer him another prop bet.
Below, you can follow the game that has been on for about two hours now. You can also see the number of beers Bogan has consumed so far.
