The GGMasters 6th Anniversary tournament produced a massive $1.8 million overlay, marking the largest online poker overlay ever recorded in GGPoker’s history. The operator was forced to contribute nearly $1.8 million from its own funds to meet the advertised $10 million guarantee.

$10 Million Guarantee Falls Short of Expectations

To celebrate the anniversary, GGPoker raised the guaranteed prize pool to $10 million, matching the levels seen in 2023 and 2024 and doubling the guarantee offered in 2025. Reaching that target required 72,464 entries—approximately ten times the traffic of a typical weekly GGMasters tournament.

The event featured multiple starting flights, each played in freezeout format. However, players were allowed to enter more than one flight. Despite these efforts, the total number of entries reached only 59,480, generating $8.2 million in buy-ins. As a result, GGPoker had to cover an overlay of $1,791,760, setting a new record in online poker history.

The Largest Online Overlay Ever Recorded

The previous online record was held by India’s PokerBaazi, whose GOAT tournament produced an overlay exceeding $1.4 million in 2024. GGPoker has now surpassed that mark by a significant margin.

Some of the largest overlays in poker history include:

  • 2014 – Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open (live): $2.5M
  • 2023 – WPT World Championship (live): $2.4M
  • 2026 – GGPoker GGMasters 6th Anniversary (online): $1.79M
  • 2024 – PokerBaazi GOAT (online): $1.4M
  • 2020 – PokerStars Big Blowout (online): $1.23M

This result makes the GGMasters 6th Anniversary the online tournament with the largest overlay ever recorded.

Over $1 Million Net Loss for GGPoker

Based on the total number of entries, GGPoker collected $713,760 in fees. However, this amount was not enough to offset the overlay cost. As a result, the operator recorded a net loss exceeding $1 million on the tournament, representing the largest single overlay expense ever absorbed by an online poker room.

Anniversary Editions Have Consistently Produced Overlays

Significant overlays have become a recurring pattern in GGMasters anniversary editions. Recent figures include:

  • 2022: $334,772 overlay
  • 2023: $1.08M overlay
  • 2024: $768,628 overlay
  • 2025: $100,000+ overlay
  • 2026: $1.79M overlay (record)

GGPoker has often highlighted overlays as added value for players, positioning anniversary editions as especially attractive, value-focused events. However, an overlay of this magnitude represents a major financial hit from the operator’s perspective and underscores the ambitious scale of the guarantee.
