Arturo Vidal has officially joined GGPoker as a brand ambassador, marking a notable shift in the operator’s approach to partnerships. The Chilean midfielder becomes both the first professional footballer and the first representative from Chile to join the poker site’s ambassador lineup.
A rare crossover between football and poker
GGPoker has traditionally focused on professional poker players when building its Team Pro roster. The addition of Vidal signals a broader strategy, bringing in high-profile athletes to expand the brand’s reach beyond the core poker audience.
Vidal’s football career spans some of Europe’s top clubs, including Juventus, Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona, and Inter Milan. He is also a key figure in Chile’s “golden generation,” winning back-to-back Copa América titles in 2015 and 2016 and earning over 140 caps for the national team. He currently plays for Colo-Colo.
Long-standing interest in poker
Vidal is not entering the poker world as a newcomer. He has shown a clear interest in the game for years, including participating in a high-stakes European Poker Tour event in 2019 alongside Gerard Piqué. Competing in a €25,000 buy-in tournament, Vidal secured a fifth-place finish, while Piqué finished runner-up. Together, they collected close to half a million euros in prize money.
Beyond live tournaments, Vidal has also been active in the broader gaming and betting space. He previously collaborated with betting brands and even launched his own platform, “Juego con el King,” referencing his well-known nickname.
Expanding GGPoker’s global appeal
From a strategic perspective, the partnership highlights GGPoker’s intention to grow its presence in Latin America. Vidal’s popularity in Chile and across the region makes him a strong entry point to new audiences who may not yet be deeply engaged with online poker.
This move aligns with GGPoker’s recent efforts to diversify its ambassador team. Alongside Vidal, the platform already features several Latin American poker professionals, including:
- Felipe Mojave
- Peterson Machado
- Michael Acevedo
- Diego Ventura
- Steve Enríquez
- Cristian Stival
More than a symbolic signing
Bringing in a globally recognized athlete like Vidal is more than a branding exercise. It reflects a wider industry trend where poker platforms are looking beyond traditional ambassadors to tap into mainstream sports audiences.
For GGPoker, this partnership could help bridge the gap between football fans and online poker players—two communities that increasingly overlap in the digital entertainment space.
