Veronica Brill, American poker player and commentator, became widely known in the international poker community in 2019 as the whistleblower of the Mike Postle scandal. She was the first to publicly voice her suspicions about what was happening during the live-streamed cash games at California’s Stones Gambling Hall. According to Brill, one of the regular players, Mike Postle, consistently made highly improbable and remarkably successful plays—suggesting he may have had access to information unavailable to others at the table.
Stones Live was a popular live cash game show recorded near Sacramento. Unlike other productions such as Live at the Bike, players were allowed to keep and use their mobile phones at the table. Brill and several others in the poker world believe this may have been a key factor—Postle may have accessed real-time information, either through technical means or with help from someone on the inside, giving him knowledge of his opponents’ exact hole cards.
Suspicion, Investigation, and Legal Action
Brill didn’t stop at raising concerns—she also took legal action. With the help of Maurice VerStandig, a lawyer specializing in gambling law, she filed a lawsuit joined by over 80 players who had competed against Postle on the show. The defendants included Mike Postle, Justin Kuraitis (a Stones Live broadcast manager), and King’s Casino Management, the company operating the casino.
Although many in the poker community were convinced that cheating had occurred, the judge ultimately dismissed all 14 claims. The ruling stated that under California law, courts generally do not intervene in gambling-related disputes, especially when alleged damages are inherently speculative. However, the court did allow the plaintiffs the opportunity to appeal the decision.
The God Mode Animated Series
Veronica Brill has continued to speak out about the scandal. Most recently, she launched a comic book–style animated video series titled God Mode, in which she recounts the events from her own perspective.
Episode 1 – The Suspicion Begins
The first episode covers Brill’s role as a Stones Live commentator, the moments when Postle’s plays began to raise red flags, and how her suspicions took shape.
Episode 2 – The People Behind the Scenes
The second episode focuses on Justin Kuraitis, the poker room manager whom many believe may have played a key role in enabling the cheating. Brill explains how Kuraitis reacted to the early allegations and explores his potential involvement in the scandal.
More Episodes to Come
According to Brill, the God Mode series will continue with additional episodes that delve even deeper into how such a large-scale cheating scheme could unfold on a livestream—and why it took so long for someone to finally speak up and say: something is seriously wrong.
