The past week delivered a quartet of standout poker headlines: record-breaking hands from Ossi “Monarch” Ketola, an inside look at Triton Poker’s ambitious growth, Gus Hansen’s latest comeback run, and Isaac Haxton finally lifting a Triton trophy.

Monarch Wins a $12.7 Million Pot in Jeju

At the Triton Super High Roller Series in Jeju, Finnish high roller Ossi “Monarch” Ketola claimed what is being touted as the largest-ever livestreamed poker pot. In a $2 million buy-in heads-up match against Bjorn Li, pocket nines held against pocket eights in a $12.7 million all-in confrontation. Monarch secured a $4 million overall profit despite winning only two of the five matches. The hand has reignited debate over whether such specially arranged matches should count as official records, with many still crediting Tom Dwan’s $3.1 million Hustler Casino Live pot in 2023 as the benchmark.

Triton CEO Andy Wong on Building Poker’s Premium Brand

Triton co-founder and CEO Andy Wong gave a rare extended interview during the Jeju stop, outlining the philosophy behind the brand’s meteoric rise. Since 2015, Triton has positioned itself as poker’s most prestigious tour, combining elite fields with unmatched production value. Wong revealed that Triton ONE, a new mid-stakes series, debuted strongly in South Korea, pointing to the brand’s plans to expand beyond nosebleed buy-ins while maintaining its luxury identity. His vision: to turn Triton into “more than a poker brand” — a lifestyle experience at the intersection of competition, business, and entertainment.

Gus Hansen’s Return Falls Short in Aix-les-Bains

Meanwhile, in France, Gus Hansen came within reach of his first title in 12 years at the Winamax Poker Open Aix-les-Bains. The “Great Dane” made the final table but bowed out in seventh for €16,899 after running ace-king into pocket aces. Despite the cooler, Hansen expressed renewed enthusiasm for tournaments and praised Winamax’s ambassador team. The title went to Jeremy Cauchard, who captured his second Winamax trophy and €135,000 after defeating Mirand Murseli heads-up.

Ike Haxton Finally Wins a Triton Title

Isaac “Ike” Haxton ended a decade-long wait for a Triton Poker Series victory by winning the $100K PLO Main Event in Jeju. The 40-year-old American, with nearly $57 million in career earnings, had reached dozens of Triton final tables but never closed one out until now. Haxton outlasted a 116-entry field and defeated Nacho Barbero heads-up to secure the $2.7 million top prize and the exclusive Jacob & Co. watch awarded to Main Event champions. For Haxton, who noted it was “bound to work out eventually,” the victory cements his status not only as one of poker’s most consistent performers but now also as a Triton champion.
