As we wrote about it earlier, Peter Eastgate put his 2008 WSOP Main Event bracelet on eBay for auction in November. The Danish pro (who now retired from poker) didn't need the money, he offered all the profits of the sale to UNICEF. The $16,000 starting price quickly rose above $100,000, and didn't stop until $147,500 at the auction's end.
It turned out recently that the proud owner of Eastgate's bracelet is the Scottish businessman, William Haughey. He became a millionaire leading his refrigeration company. In the previous 5 years, he donated $50 million to charities, but he also donates money to his favourite football club, the Scottish Celtic FC.
Haughey gave the check to UNICEF's ambassador, Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of the Manchester United football team and Joanne Andrews, representative of the UNICEF (pictured above). Since the $147,500 is £94,000, he rounded it up to £100,000, which looks much more compelling on the photo.
Haughey is also a huge fan of poker, he participated in many live tournaments, in April 2008 he won the EPT Monte Carlo €500 NLHE side event and has 4 WSOP money finishes. According to the Hendon Mob database, he won $275,000 throughout his career.
