As we wrote in December, Randy Lew, the young PokerStars multi-table pro wanted to set a new Guinness World Record at the 2012 PCA. Which record to set, however, he left for the poker community to decide. PokerStars chose the "Most hands played in 8 hours with realizing profit".

In the main tournament room at the Atlantis, Bahamas Randy Lew sat down at the podium at a tournament table with two monitors. His record attempt was constantly monitored by Guinness judges. He had a supporting audience of PCA players behind the cordons, cheering and shouting tips to Lew.

Playing 8 hours straight on 40 tables without any breaks proved to be tough for him, but he pulled himself through. His progress was like a rollercoaster, he was up a few hundred dollars, but was down $1,200 at one time. At that point he realized it's going to be tough from then on, as he told PokerStars:

"I was like, ugh, I've got to chase those losses! I really was running horrible. But I was trying to stay focused like "You can't let this get to you." But I still played well and tried to play my best, and eventually it worked out. Twelve hundred was rough, though. It could've been game over, to be honest."

But eventually, he managed to win his money back, he closed the session with $7.65 profit.

Nanonoko Sets World Record

Final statistics:
  • Hands: 23,493
  • Hours: 8
  • Hands per hour: 2936.63
  • Hands per minute: 48.94
  • Seconds per hand: 1.23
  • Hours of live poker (at 30 hands per hour): 783.10
  • FPPs earned: 22,784
  • Profit: $7.65
As he says, he doesn't plan another Guinness Record in the near future, he explains that he is working on his tournament resume, so we'll definitely see him at the tables at some major tournaments. Hopefully just sitting at one table at a time.
