In 2007, he appeared in The Grand, a comedy centered around a high-stakes poker tournament. The film featured stars such as Woody Harrelson and Ray Romano. Additionally, he had a cameo in Lucky You, a poker-themed film starring Eric Bana and Drew Barrymore.

Negreanu’s outspoken personality has led to several controversies throughout his career. One of the most infamous was his "more rake is better" comment in 2016 while serving as a PokerStars ambassador.

The controversy erupted when PokerStars significantly increased the rake in certain cash games and tournaments. Many players were outraged, while Negreanu defended the change in a vlog, suggesting that higher rake could actually be beneficial as it might discourage professionals, making games softer.

This statement sparked strong backlash within the poker community. Many felt that Negreanu had turned his back on the players and was merely defending PokerStars’ interests. "More rake is better" quickly became a meme, and critics still bring it up as a point of ridicule. Negreanu later clarified his stance, explaining that his wording was misleading and that he never meant the statement in a literal sense.
