Although the Main Event is still underway, no player can catch up to the American professional.
Jason Mercier had a huge bracelet bet against Vanessa Selbst this year which put him in an intense grind mode this summer. In the end he couldn't win his third bracelet to cash in on the bet, but his successful WSOP still won him the Player of the Year award.
The Main Event is still underway, but the only player who had the chance to catch up with Mercier, Paul ''paulgees81'' Volpe was eliminated in 29th place on Day 6.
Mercier won the WSOP POY with a total of 2,195 points while Volped finished in second with 1,923 points. The European with the most points was British pro Max Silver with 1,687 points.
Mercier collected a total of 11 in-the-money finishes this summer, four of these were final tables, two of which he managed to win.
The first victory came in the $10,000 2-7 Draw Lowball Championship for $273,335 and the second one came in the $10,000 HORSE Championship for $422,874. He also finished in second place in the $10,000 Seven Card Razz Championship for $168,936 between the two wins.
