According to a recent report by PokerIndustry Pro, PokerStars has rolled out a significant desktop software update, introducing fresh social features and gameplay enhancements designed to improve the player experience.
The update includes a new “hero player pod” that allows users to send simple emojis directly onto their avatars for a few seconds, adding a more visual layer of expression beyond traditional text chat. The set features a dozen basic, static icons — such as laughing, angry, crying, and shocked — along with canned chat phrases like “Nice hand,” “Good call,” and “Good game.” Unlike some operators that limit players to preset communication, PokerStars continues to support free-form chat alongside these additions.
These features follow a broader industry trend. PartyPoker, WPN, Unibet, 888poker, WPT Global, and Winamax have all launched emoji systems in recent years, often with animated designs. Run It Once Poker and BetRivers pioneered canned chat as the sole communication method, while many operators also support “throwables” — virtual objects like tomatoes or kisses that can be tossed at opponents. PokerStars adopted throwables in 2019, and the feature remains part of its offering.
Beyond communication tools, the update introduces several practical enhancements. A new in-game display now shows first- and second-place payouts when heads-up in tournaments, particularly useful in PKOs. A redesigned loyalty widget in the lobby and at the tables makes tracking PokerStars Rewards progress easier, showing points, Chests earned, and expiry dates. The operator has also upgraded its MTT Estimated Duration tool, now capable of estimating time to reach the money and final table in addition to total runtime — functionality already common at rivals like GGPoker, BetRivers, Unibet, and WPT Global.
Finally, PokerStars has expanded its browser-based client, which now supports the All-In Poker format for both the UK and international dot-com markets. Together, these updates highlight the operator’s effort to keep pace with industry trends while adding utility and engagement features to its platform.
