WPT Seoul Satellites: The $1.10 Route to a $1,500 Package

The path, in three steps

The full ladder runs:

The step and satellite levels run throughout the week. The $88 qualifier is the one that matters: it runs every Sunday at 12:01 UTC, and each running awards at least two packages.

Do the arithmetic on the final step

Here is the number that should shape how you approach this, and it's buried in most coverage. These tournaments typically attract up to 40 players.

Two packages awarded from a field of around 40 is roughly a 1-in-20 shot per entry at the final step, for $88, at a prize worth $1,500 plus a live seat. That is a materially better ratio than the buy-in-to-prize gap implies at first glance.

It also means something more practical: at that field size, overlay is a live possibility. If the guarantee is two packages and the field comes in light on a given Sunday, the value swings sharply in favour of anyone who registered. Watching the lobby before late registration closes is worth more here than at almost any other satellite you'll play.

Twelve-minute levels with a 100 BB start is a reasonably deep satellite structure rather than a hyper — you get some play. But note the 10 re-entries across 14 levels of late registration. That is a lot of rope, and it means the field you face late will include players who have fired several bullets and are playing accordingly. Budget for that before you decide the $88 is your one shot.

Four things that will cost you the package if you miss them

The terms carry several conditions that appear as footnotes and function as deadlines. In order of how expensive they are to get wrong:

1. KYC must be complete by 1 November. Miss it and the package is forfeited — not delayed, forfeited. If you qualify in August, do your verification in August. There is no reason to leave this until the week before travel, and every reason not to.

2. Accommodation is capped at the first 30 winners. The first 30 package winners get four nights at the Brown Dot Hotel Songdo, 4–8 November, for two guests. From the 31st winner onward, you receive the Championship entry, the $250 and every other benefit — but no hotel. Same satellite, same buy-in, materially different package. Qualifying early is worth real money.

3. You arrange your own travel and entry to South Korea. Citizens of more than 100 countries can enter without a traditional visa, but most travellers still need K-ETA electronic authorisation before departure. This catches people at the airport. Check your own nationality's requirement the day you qualify, not the week you fly.

4. Register for a player card before the Championship starts. An administrative step, but a required one.

The venue

The Championship runs at the YY Poker Club inside the INSPIRE Entertainment Resort in Incheon, close to Incheon Airport. The room is new, with around 70 poker tables and a live streaming studio attached.

The airport proximity is worth noting for anyone weighing the trip: Incheon is the main international gateway into South Korea, so this is not a festival that requires a domestic connection or a long transfer after a long-haul flight.

Is the route worth taking?

Two honest observations, one in each direction.

In favour: the ladder genuinely starts at $1.10, the final step has a small field relative to the number of packages awarded, and the package covers the entry and most on-site costs. Your remaining exposure is flights and food. For a player who wants a live festival experience in Asia without committing four figures up front, the structure is about as accessible as this gets.

Against: a satellite package is only worth what the live event is worth to you. If you would not otherwise fly to Incheon in November, you are converting poker equity into a trip — which is fine if you want the trip, and an expensive way to win a tournament if you don't. Packages are typically non-transferable and non-refundable, so treat the flight cost as part of the buy-in when you calculate whether the $88 is a good bet.

Precedent suggests the event itself has substance. WPT's Korean Championship on Jeju Island last year drew 587 entries and generated $1,926,886 in prize money, with the winner taking $322,567 — having qualified through WPT Global satellites. Whether the Incheon edition matches that is unknown, but the guarantee is set at roughly $700,000 and the format is proven.

Before you fire the first $1.10

Three practical notes.

Qualify early in the window rather than late — the hotel cap makes the first 30 packages worth more than the rest, and early qualification also leaves room for the KYC deadline.

Check Sunday field sizes across a couple of weeks before committing. At around 40 entries for two packages, the equity moves noticeably week to week, and a light field is the best entry you'll get.

And do the sum on the whole trip, not the satellite. Flights to Incheon in early November, plus food and incidentals beyond the $250, are your real buy-in. If that total sits comfortably within what you'd spend on poker this quarter, the $1.10 route is a good use of it.
