The Winning Poker Network (WPN) is well-known for its iconic Venom tournament, which debuted in 2019. The poker world knew this inaugural edition for its impressive $5 million guarantee. At the time, it was called the biggest online tournament that a US-facing offshore room hosted since the events of Black Friday. Today, it’s a much-loved tournament, and it’s back with a new twist.
WPN’s Venom Tournament
This year will be the first time that the WPN runs two Venom tournaments across its skins. Both of these tournaments will start on August 4th, with multiple day 1s running until the 18th. Day 2 will kick off on August 19th, so players still have time to become part of the fun.
Warm-up Event
To prepare for these new tournaments, WPN is running a warm-up event on all of its skins, including PokerKing. Dubbed the Venom WarmUp, it features a cheaper version of the upcoming events to help familiarise players with the format.
It boasts a $55 buy-in and $1 million guarantee and runs from July 7th to 29th. There are 192 Day 1 flights, with Day 2 starting on July 28th and Day 3 on July 29th. It features a 100,000-chip starting stack, 15/12-minute (normal) and 5-minute (Hyper) blind levels, and unlimited re-entry.
Satellites
Players can also participate in the Venom Fever satellites between $55 and $630. The network guarantees almost 1,000 tickets between July 1st and August 18th. About 900 of those tickets are for the Mystery Bounty event, while around 100 are for the new Pot-Limit Omaha version.
The New Venom Formats
We’re excited to hear about two new formats debuting in the Venom series: Mystery Bounty and Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Max. With the popularity of MBTs in the last three years, we’re not surprised to see that WPN combined it with its legendary tournament.
Mystery Bounty
This event will follow a No-Limit Hold’em format, with the MBs entering the stage on Day 2. It has a $2,650 buy-in and a decent $8 million guarantee. However, it’s significantly less than the $12.5 guarantee it boasted in April. Still, the max bounty is $500,000, and it can even be increased in some circumstances.
PLO 6-Max
This edition will be in PLO format with Reshuffle and will have a $2,650 buy-in. Its guarantee is $2 million. Like the MBT edition, players can play any number of flights, receiving a minimum $2,500 cash reward when they qualify for Day 2. These stacks can be accumulated.
