GGMasters 5th Anniversary: $5,000,000 Prize Pool, Single Flight, Freezeout Format

GGPoker is celebrating the fifth anniversary of GGMasters with a major tournament series and a $5,000,000 guaranteed anniversary event. The series kicks off on February 9, with the anniversary tournament starting on February 23.

GGMasters is GGPoker’s most popular regular tournament. To mark its fifth birthday, the leading online poker room is making it memorable with the GGMasters 5th Anniversary tournament.

The event is preceded by a major series that begins on February 9. The highlight of this series will be the anniversary tournament with a $5,000,000 guaranteed prize pool, which starts on February 23.

This year’s GGMasters 5th Anniversary will be held in freezeout format, meaning players will have only one entry and there will be a single flight. In contrast, previous anniversary editions were multi-flight events with multiple re-entry options, favoring players with large bankrolls. The 2024 edition, for example, had ten flights and allowed up to ten entries.

The buy-in remains $150, with $138 going to the prize pool and $12 as the fee. To avoid an overlay, the tournament requires 36,232 entries, which means this many unique players will need to register for the single-flight event.

Even for the market leader, this is a bold move. That said, GGPoker likely wouldn’t mind an overlay, as previous editions were explicitly marketed as "Overlay Edition" tournaments, where they guaranteed an overlay. While this hasn’t been officially announced for this year, the tournament's structure makes a significant overlay highly likely.

The first GGMasters Anniversary, held in 2022, had a $5,000,000 guarantee with multiple flights adjusted to different time zones. It attracted 33,806 entries, leading to a $334,772 overlay, but thanks to rake revenue, GGPoker still turned a profit.

In 2023, the guarantee was doubled to $10,000,000, with nine flights available. However, only 64,622 entries were recorded instead of the required 72,464, leading to an overlay of over $1,000,000. After accounting for rake, GGPoker’s net loss was $306,700.

In 2024, the $10,000,000 guarantee remained, and although the event still had an overlay with 66,894 entries, the collected fees resulted in a slight profit for GGPoker.

The GGMasters 5th Anniversary will be a three-day event:

• Day 1: Sunday, February 23 – Play stops at Level 16.
• Day 2: Monday – The tournament resumes.
• Final Table: Tuesday – The winner is crowned.

Late registration will remain open for over 25 hours, extending into the early levels of Day 2.

The 5th Anniversary Series, starting on February 9, features several key tournaments, including:

• $320 GGMasters Bounty Anniversary Edition – $1,000,000 guaranteed
• $1,050 GGMasters High Roller Anniversary Edition – $1,000,000 guaranteed

Additionally, the series will include a Ticket Drop promotion, where players in select tournaments can randomly win tickets to the $5,000,000 anniversary event. A total of $200,000 worth of tickets will be distributed.
