Phil Hellmuth Forgets 2011 WSOP Main Event

The unluckiest man at this year's WSOP, the 11-time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth almost overslept his second day at the Main Event. He didn't realize that he was scheduled to play for the day. However, a friend is always on guard.

Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth arrived at the 2011 WSOP Main Event in a quite subdued manner. Over the years he made a fool of himself with his rather funny and unpleasant entrances. He walked into the Rio Casino as a cage fighter, Caesar himself, a racecar driver and so on. This time around he dressed as an ESPN reporter, holding a microphone and did a live broadcast as he approached the poker rooms. This is of course a much more subtle way to enter a casino, we, however, feel it a bit unnecessary.

Hellmuth successfully made it to Day 2 of the Main Event. However, he got some problems with his memory, apparenltly he forgot which day he will play. He described the event on twitter 15 hours ago:

"Security broke into my room, I'm like, "What's going on?!?" SGuard says, "You're playing in the World Series of Poker today."

"I jump out of bed, dress, and run down to my car. Didn't know you could drive 75 on side roads!! I Thought I played Day 2 Tuesday..."

Apparently, the mysterious savior was Hellmuth's friend, Mike Matusow, who didn't forget about the Poker Brat:

"@phil_hellmuth is such a idiot hes getting blinded off has 5k left has his phoneoff and a do not disturb on his phone at hotel"

"sorry @phil_hellmuth that you4 wsop comes to a nd this way i even got them to ring inside your room wtih a do not disturb on it"

"@phil_hellmuth yea i had them break in you idiot least you know who your friends are"

Apparently, Matusow asked the security service at Phil's hotel to break into his room, warning him about his Main Event participation. If this is not a heroic act, we don't know what is. Hellmuth got to his table 1 hour 40 minutes late, his starting stack of 11,800 was blinded down to only 6975. Later yesterday Phil wrote:

"WOW!! So happy, not chip leader, BUT ended Day Two w $64,900!! Had 7k when I sat down and ran it up without ever being all in and called!!"

It all looks good for the Poker Brat so far.
