One of the poker rooms known for catering to recreational players is 888poker. This room traditionally had buy-ins/stake levels ranging from $0.01/$0.02 to $5/$10. However, it recently switched things up and introduced not one, not two, but six new levels to its cash game tables.
888poker’s “New” High-Stake Tables
This room added a few new high-stake six-handed tables. All of these games have a rake of 5% with a $5 cap. Players will find several new high-stake options at 888poker’s cash game tables, with the following being available:
- No-Limit Hold’em $10/20
- No-Limit Hold’em $25/50
- Push or Fold $10/$20
- Push or Fold $25/$50
- Push or Fold $50/$100
- Push or Fold $100/$200
This is a massive change, with the lowest new stake level being double that of the previous highest stake level. All of the NLH high-stake tiers have a buy-in of at least 20 big blinds and go up to a maximum of 100 big blinds.
The room’s all-in-or-fold variants have a fixed buy-in at five big blinds. However, even with these additions, 888poker still isn’t in the top levels of rooms offering high-stake tiers. GGPoker and PokerStars both have $200/$400 stake levels, while WPT Global has $100/$200/$400 stake levels.
The Reason Behind the Shift
It’s been seven to eight years since players last saw games with such high stake levels at 888poker. GGPoker’s recent decision to overhaul its high-stakes table could influence the decision to bring it back now.
After the overhaul, these games were only available to VIP members and not the general public. In fact, many rooms took this opportunity to offer high-stakes games and fill the void recreational players are now experiencing.
Other Rooms and Their High-Stake Tables
ACR Poker, a US-facing offshore room, has changed its lobby for cash games to allow players to observe tables with visible screen names without the need to participate. This feature appeals to audiences who love higher stakes.
Further, Coin Poker, a cryptocurrency room, has also launched an extensive marketing campaign to promote cash game tables with higher stakes. This campaign includes promotions like Cash Game World Championships and leaderboards, as well as signing new high-profile ambassadors.
While the timing is not as clear as with these poker rooms, iPoker has also relatively recently started offering higher stakes games, with €10/€20 and €25/€50 stake levels added to their cash game tables. While it was more popular to provide lower stake levels a decade ago, the tables with higher stakes have made a return in the current market.
Up the Ante with 888poker’s High-Stake Tables
The addition of these tables isn’t the only change 888poker made to its lineup. Last month, the room also added 5-card and 6-card Omaha to its selection and an additional stake level to the 5-card PLO and 6-card Omaha games. Players now have a more significant variety of games available at 888poker and can up the ante with its high-stakes poker games.
