GGPoker has done it again, but is anyone surprised? We knew this year’s World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online would be one for the books, and GGPoker has certainly delivered. Almost all events in the 2024 WSOP Online have seen increased entries, showcasing the growing popularity of this event. However, what exactly has happened so far?
World Series of Poker Online
This year is the fifth edition of GGPoker’s online bracelet series for WSOP. It’s been active for about a month and boasts a 33-bracelet series. Of these 33 events, 18 are already over and have certainly shown what we can expect for the other 15 events. This year will be another record-shattering event, but what else did we expect with GGPoker at the helm?
Improved Participation from 2023
Several events have shown impressive participation figures, especially compared to last year’s event. Overall, this year has awarded prizes totalling $42.3 million over the first 18 events. This is $6.8 million more than last year’s $35.5 million awarded over the same events.
The average prize pool per event has risen from $2 million to $2.3 million. Meanwhile, the number of participants has increased from 105,000 to 115,000 from last year to this year. The other events that saw an increase are:
- $300 buy-in Gladiators of Poker Opener - 11,630 participants with a $3.24m prize pool (up from 9,448 entries with a $2.64m prize pool)
- $840 Bounty PLO - 881 entries (up from 706 participants)
- $1,500 Millionaire Maker - 4,934 entrants (up 41% from 3,496 participants)
- $2,100 Bounty Championship - 18% increase
- $500 Ladies NLHE Championship - 11% growth
- $1,500 Monster Stack - More or less a 20% increase
- $500 Mini Main Event - Around a 20% growth
- Mystery Millions:
- Buy-in increased to $215 from $210
- Day 1 flights increased from 201 to 221 flights
- Participation grew from 51,211 to 52,452
- Its $10.3 million prize pool is the largest online mystery bounty event
Events Seeing a Decline
Of all the events so far, only the below three saw a decline in participation:
- $5000 6-Handed NLH Championship
- $100 Flip & Go
- $5000 Short Deck Championship
Considering that all but four of the 18 events held so far ended in seven-figure prize pools, it’s not too concerning.
What to Expect for the Rest of WSOP
With even debuting events like the $500 buy-in 5th Annual WSOP Kick-Off showing strong participation, we expect this record-breaking trend to continue. It’s currently in its most competitive phase, with the $25m Guarantee WSOP Main Event still on the horizon.
Many believe that it might even break last year’s participation figures of 6,023 entries and a $28.6m prize pool. This event might just end up awarding over $105 million in prizes, which is significantly higher than last year’s $97.9 million in prizes.
