In the fifth part of our end-of-the-year retrospective, we revise what happened in May, 2011.

Bertrand ’ElkY’ Grospellier earned €525,000, winning the PokerStars European Poker Tour Grand Final High Roller event, defeating Benny Spindler heads-up. The €10,000 Main Event was won by Ivan Freitez for €1,500,000.

Scott Seiver won the $1,618,344 first prize of the WPT Championship Main Event, defeating 'Freddy' Bonyadi heads-up. In the Super High Roller event, Erik Seidel emerged as champion.

After 7 years, Thomas Kremser, Tournament Director for EPT, has terminated his partnership with the PokerStars European Poker Tour. He stated he wanted to explore new adventures in the poker industry.

On 31st May, the 42nd World Series of Poker (WSOP) launched. Players were dealt into 58 different events for a total prize pool of around $180 million, plus the coveted bracelets.
