GGPoker has announced a comprehensive set of security measures designed to protect players and reduce the risk of cheating. The changes follow a recently uncovered cheating scheme affecting multiple online poker platforms, in which attackers were reportedly able to access screenshots of high-stakes players' screens and view their hole cards.
The most significant change is a complete ban on third-party software.
GGPoker had already prohibited external HUDs (Heads-Up Displays). Players could only access statistical information about their opponents through the platform's built-in Smart HUD system.
Smart HUD displays statistics that help players understand their opponents' playing styles. However, it provides more limited information than traditional HUDs and does not allow players to freely import statistics from external databases.
The latest restrictions therefore do not represent a new ban on HUDs. Instead, they eliminate the use of third-party tools that had previously been permitted.
These include applications offering various convenience features, such as table management and other functions that do not directly influence decision-making.
In its announcement, GGPoker explained that it had previously allowed certain external tools as long as they did not interfere with gameplay. However, recent events prompted the operator to introduce stricter rules.
"We previously allowed certain third-party tools that did not affect gameplay. Following the recent incident, however, we are tightening this policy to better protect our players and reduce the risk of similar incidents occurring again," GGPoker stated.
GGPoker Introduces Additional Security Measures
The complete ban on third-party software is part of a broader package of security improvements. GGPoker has also announced several new features designed to protect its poker client and players' data.
One of the most significant additions is a screen protection feature that blocks screenshots and screen recordings of open poker tables.
The introduction of this feature is directly related to the recent security incident.
GGPoker has also implemented a system designed to detect unusually high win rates. Its purpose is to identify players whose performance may indicate the use of prohibited real-time assistance (RTA) tools.
RTA software analyzes situations during gameplay and can provide strategic recommendations. Such tools may give users an unfair advantage over opponents who rely solely on their own knowledge and experience.
However, an unusually high win rate does not, by itself, prove cheating. Such statistical anomalies may instead warrant further investigation.
GGPoker Advises Players to Strengthen Account Security
Alongside the technical changes, GGPoker has encouraged users to take additional steps to secure their own devices and accounts.
The operator recommends regularly scanning devices for viruses and malware, keeping operating systems up to date, and using passkeys instead of traditional passwords.
The new restrictions primarily affect players who previously used third-party tools permitted under GGPoker's former software policy.
The platform's proprietary Smart HUD remains integrated into the poker client, meaning players will continue to have access to its built-in statistical features despite the broader ban on external software.
