It’s the time of the year when sports fans and poker players are one and the same. GGPoker celebrates the iconic UEFA EURO 2024 with a unique football-themed tournament, Pick & Go. Explore this football-poker tournament’s inner workings and see what poker players can expect from it.
The Origin of Pick & Go
In 2022, GGPoker launched Bet & Go during the FIFA World Cup. This format allowed players to play poker matches linked to specific fixtures of the Cup’s matches. This year, the poker room re-introduces that concept under Pick & Go and links it with the UEFA matches.
GGPoker’s Managing Director, Sarne Lightman, states, “Pick & Go offers players a thrilling dilemma.” We can see why you might need to “choose between your heart and your head,” as lucrative buy-ins might support a rival team. Still, don’t miss the excitement, with the tournament starting on June 14th and running to July 14th.
What to Expect
As with the previous style of this tournament, there’ll be two tournament buy-ins for each event. These buy-ins will each correspond with one of the teams participating in the game the event represents. The buy-ins will also boast a discounted rate based on the team’s odds of winning.
As such, the favourite to win will have a lower discount rate and so a higher buy-in than the underdog will have. We expect to see these buy-ins reflecting the actual odds as they change. Poker players will likely be able to view the current match odds in the tournament lobby, as they could the previous time.
The buy-ins will be low, between $0.10 and $9.90, to reflect the real-time odds. The sports betting element comes with what happens when a team loses or wins. You’ll continue in the tournament if you back the buy-in linked to the winning team.
If the buy-in you use links to the losing team, then you’ll be eliminated, and the poker room will remove your stack. Draws will result in all players continuing in the tournament as usual with no eliminations. Players can also re-enter using late registration but without the discounted rate.
This re-entry will likely have a $10 buy-in and an 8% GGPoker fee, as with Bet & Go. We expect 51 tournament events, as there will be 51 games in the EURO Cup. Previous prizes ranged between $5,000 to $50,000, and this year will likely mirror it.
Other EURO Promotions
While GGPoker doesn’t officially partner with the EURO Cup, it’ll celebrate with its sports fans with this tournament. Other poker rooms might also do the same, with PokerStars, Unibet, partypoker, and Winamax previously running promotions on the EURO 2021.
