Jack Ury, the oldest man ever to have played in the WSOP, passed away on 1st February, 2011 at the age of 97. His slowroll in the 2009 WSOP Main Event, as televised by ESPN, will forever be one of the most remembered moments of poker history.

Although it would be far-fetched to state 2011 might be his year, he has indeed been convincing in the past few days. He currently has over $600,000 in profit, winning against the likes of Phil Galfond, Ashton Griffin and Mike Gordon.

Jared Huggins Turned down by The Big Game

Jared Huggins lost his jobs and home in February, 2010 but was helped out by the poker community, which he became incredibly popular with due to his personality and touching videos. Even a proposal was made to get him into PokerStars’ The Big Game show as Loose Cannon, but recently this has been turned down.

Australian poker player David Saab and two companions attempted to smuggle drugs from Vancouver, Canada to Australia. They hid the 21 kgs (c. 46 lbs) of cocaine on a cargo ship carrying metal parts.

Poker League for World’s Top 200 Players

In the year 2011, Federated Sports & Gaming, in cooperation with Palms Casino Resort, launches a professional poker league. The first season is planned to include five tournaments along with a grand finale. Jeffrey Pollack will act as chairman of the league, while former UB Pro Annie Duke will serve as commissioner.

Many think that the reason for him to conceal his true identity was to evade Swedish taxes. Now it seems this really is the case: the Swedish tax office claims $149 million in Swedish krona.
